Italiaanse woordenlijsten Dictionary Italian stitches and words

On holidays in Italy, years ago I bought a beautiful magazine as a souvenir. What a shame I could understand little to nothing of the patterns and text of the explications. Some years and a course of Danish embroidery later, I could read more of the patterns, but the text remained mostly unclear.
Yet Italian publications kept calling me.. Italian embroiderers practise many different styles and techniques. By now we have translating websites everywhere but sadly they are not much use because we use very specific terminology.

After a visit to the fair Manidoro in April 2017, I had the idea to translate the most common terminology and stitches, and keep a list of them, so that we could understand the instructions when we try to read an Italian book of magazine. Through visits to Italian fairs and the internet by now I had a nice network and I received much help from volunteers (exactly like the times when I started digitizing patterns for my Aunts Attic).

The list has been composed more or less at random: whenever I came across a stitch or a word I did not know, it ended up on the list. I do not pretend to present a complete, or even correct list. It is my best attempt and as such perhaps of some use.

After intensive email correspondence and much thinking about the form on the internet, finally we have arrived at a 6 language glossary/dictionary for needleworkers.

The list departs from Italian and translates names of stitches and terminology to other languages. For this moment, we have not managed to make it reversible in the sense we could translate into Italian.

Let me present you to the magnificent help I received realising this  project:

  1. Thank you for the link to your dictionary of stitches. I have a lovely German embroidery book but don't know any German so it will be very useful.
